Kathy Gallowitz is 2022 Ford Oval of Honor Recipient
for Cultivating Civilian Veteran Champions
[Rio Verde, AZ, July 6, 2022] Gallowitz, a relative newcomer to Arizona, was inducted into the Central Ohio Ford Dealers 2022 Ford Oval of Honor on July 1, 2022.
This prestigious recognition created by civilian Veteran Champions celebrates local veterans who have demonstrated an “uncommon commitment” to defend the cause of freedom in service to our country.
Gallowitz served 29 years in the U.S.A.F. as a public affairs officer or nurse. In response to 9/11, she designed and led a never-been-done-before statewide outreach program in Ohio to educate and engage civilians in support of troops and their families.
Sunshine, mountains and Arizona’s advanced Veteran-friendly ecosystem drew Gallowitz and her husband Ed, U.S. Army retired with four combat tours, to Arizona nearly three years ago. He was inducted alongside her.
She serves on the Arizona Governor’s Veterans’ Service Advisory Commission, the Southwest Veteran Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and is the Veteran-hiring Advisor for the Arizona Society of Human Resource Mangement.
Through her business, Vanguard Veteran, Gallowitz equips civilians to become Veteran Champions as the “Veteran-Hiring Concierge, ” “Military Ministry Builder” and “Fallen Comrades Ceremony Producer.”

Deployed, then unemployed, military veterans fight to find jobs
March 2021
By Ethan Kispert/Cronkite News
Four military Veterans discuss challenges they face when seeking employment post military service. Representative comments include:
- Army veteran Rob Reckner said veterans often struggle to shift their mindset from military service to civilian life. Employers and veterans often have trouble figuring out how military expertise can transfer to the workplace, he said.
- Advocates say military service carries other employment advantages, such as leadership, teamwork and reliability.
- But veterans of color and female veterans often have a harder time finding a job than white veterans. According to the labor bureau report, the 2019 unemployment rate for veterans of color was nearly double that of white veterans. Kathy Gallowitz said, “When I was going to an interview, particularly a nursing interview, my fear was that people would think that I was too bossy,” she said. “That I was going to sort of command people to do their work.”

New book explores ways to support veterans
Ryan Winslett, Editor
November 11, 2020
According to LtCol (Ret.) Kathy Lowrey Gallowitz, most Americans love their military, but most people don’t understand military culture, their experiences or how to best support them or their families.
Her new book dovetails with the business she founded, Vanguard Veteran, where she “equips civilians to become Veteran Champions to improve quality of life, workforce and community” for the country’s veterans. She coaches employers to hire and retain veteran talent and faith community leaders to create military ministries.
Lowrey Gallowitz said her book is packed with practical suggestions for neighbors, employers, educators, healthcare providers, lawyers and community influencers looking to improve the lives of veterans.
“Everyone can do something,” she said. “It’s not rocket science, it’s people science.”
“It is easy and can be life changing for the veteran and for you to identify, get to know and support veterans in your neighborhood, at work and in your place of worship in meaningful ways,” she said.

Veterans Day 2017: More Religious Leaders are Targeting Ministry to Military.
Columbus Dispatch
Despite the recognition of their service, especially on Veterans Day, more in-depth care of veterans’ and service members’ needs is often overlooked.
Even in houses of worship.
That’s something retired Air Force Lt. Col. Kathy Lowrey Gallowitz wants to change, and she’s working with local religious leaders to do that.
Service offers respite for bruised souls.
