How do I start a “Military Ministry?”

In May, during Military Appreciation Month, one of the most impactful ways you can support military families, is to start a “Military Ministry” within your congregation.

A “Military Ministry” is a volunteer-led grassroots, practical and spiritual place for military-connected people to belong inside a place of worship. These volunteers are not therapists or counselors – they are caring people who want to do more for those who serve(d). They bring people together in partnership with clergy to improve military-connected peoples’ quality of life.

If you don’t have a military support ministry within your congregation, start by asking your faith community leaders the questions above. Ideally we hope clergy will empower volunteer leaders to organize and lead it.
